The mental health epidemic has exploded in the last ten years. Today 1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems each year. Suicide rates are at an all time high. Healthcare systems the world over are struggling to cope with demand and as a society we have a long way to go towards understanding and accepting mental health as a real issue. But Rome wasn’t built in a day.
We have come a long way and we must acknowledge that. The conversation has opened up. More and more a-listers are using their platform as a voice for change. Communities are forming all over the world. People are asking for help and the progress in the last ten years cannot but offer hope for our future selves.
crakd is a brainchild I’ve been mentally bearing for over a year. In reality it’s a decade overdue. crakd is about continuing the conversation. It’s about drowning out the noise, honing in on the truth and sharing our unique insight into mental health, albeit through a crakd lens.
We’re not afraid of the real stuff. From depression to trauma, spirituality to loathing we’re breaking down the barriers and having honest chats with the advocates and the experts to bring to the table the things that you could do, the things we would do and the things they say you should do. With each issue we’ll be bringing you something old, something new and something borrowed amidst the blue. This month we’re focusing on self-care and the importance of it in maintaining a healthy mind. More than anything crakd is a nod that we’re all in this together.
